Park Bom left South Korea in the 6th grade and studied abroad in the United States. She graduated high school and enrolled at Lesley University with a psychology major. However, she had dreams to become a singer. With her parents support, Bom transferred to Berklee College of Music in Boston with a vocalist major. She has lymph nodes, which causes certain areas of her body to swell up.

She auditioned to become a trainee at YG Entertainment but failed 3 times. In 2005 she finally passed and began receiving training. Initially, Bom was scheduled to debut as a solo artist in March 2007, but YG decided to debut her in 2NE1. In 2006, she was featured in Lee Hyori's Anystar CF. Bom debuted with 2NE1 in March 2009. She released her first solo digital single "You And I" on October 28, 2009.

She left YG Entertainment in November 2016 after 2NE1's disbandment and confirmed on April 20, 2017 via Twitter that she's now signed to its sub-label The Black Label.
