Lim Yoon A was born in Seoul, South Korea. At a young age, she auditioned at the SM Saturday Open Casting Audition and joined the company in 2002. She began to train with the other trainees under the same company in the areas of acting, singing and dancing. During her training days, Yoona appeared on some music videos of other SM artists. She was trained in 5 years before debuting as part of Girls' Generation.Yoona made her debut as an actress in 2007 with the drama 9 Ends 2 Outs. In 2008, she acted in the drama Woman of Matchless Beauty before her first leading role in the daily drama You Are My Destiny. In the drama, Yoona played the role of an tough happy-go-lucky orphan Jang Saebyuk who received an eye cornea donation from a dying woman (Kim Nayoung) after she lost her sight due to an accident. Her fate became entwined with the woman's family who slowly accept her as a part of their family as time goes by. Yoona is currently filming her new 2009 drama Cindrella Man alongside Kwon Sang Woo. She had her hair cut to fit her role as a mature fashion designer. Before her debut with the girl group Girls' Generation, Yoona had been well known in the entertainment industry. She began to film commercials and model for various magazines when she was a trainee.
