A short medical hiatus for Kiki was announced through the official Hello! Project website on June 6, 2017, prompting her absence from several events and the opening act of the final concert of senior group °C-ute. An update was issued on June 16th announcing both the diagnosis of herniated lumbar disc and an extension of her hiatus until June 30th. Upon an examination by her doctor on June 30th, it was decided she would continue her hiatus until at least mid-July as she was continuing to experience pain, though she had started acupuncture and physical therapy to relieve it. On July 12th an offical update was posted announcing the gradual restart of Asakura's activities, beginning with participating in the talk segments of several "Shuukatsu Sensation / Waratte / Hana Moyou" single release events. While continuing her physical training she was able to occasionally begin performing by March 2018, slowing returning to full active status.

The following year on May 8, 2019 it was announced that she would once again go on hiatus due to back pain, suspected by doctors to be related to the lumbar disc herniation that had been diagnosed in 2017, despite the ongoing physical conditioning and treatment. An official update on June 25th alerted of the continuation of her hiatus and absence from the "Hello! Project 2019 SUMMER" concerts and other events. A third announcement on August 26th reported that she was showing signs of recovery but was not yet well enough to resume activity. Asakura's gradual return to full active status was announced on October 9th; she would not dance or be part of Tsubaki Factory's "Tsubaki Factory Live Tour 2019 Aki: Gekkou". Her first activity was a solo talk event in November, and instead of participating in the traditional mini-live release events for Tsubaki Factory's upcoming January 2019 single, she would hold separate talk events.

History

Asakura Kiki participated in the "Morning Musume 12th Generation Golden Audition", but failed to pass. She was later introduced as a new Hello! Pro Kenshuusei member at the "Hello! Pro Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2014~November-December no Nama Tamago Show!~" concert.
