- Information
"Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)" is a pop song recorded by Utada Hikaru. The track is a cover of Kaye Ballard's 1954 love ballad, later made famous by Frank Sinatra. It was first released as a B-side to Utada's fifth single, "Wait & See ~Risk~" in April 2000 and followed a month later with the "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)" remix vinyl. The EP also included a chance to enter a sweepstakes competition for a DVD that would include the animated music video for "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)". Utada later performed the song live at the World Economic Forum in New York City. The vinyl reached #16 on the Oricon charts, and sold over 20,000 copies.
Another version of the song by Claire Littley became popular in Japan during the mid-1990's after being used as the ending theme of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV Series. In 2007, Utada joined the franchise with the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. An updated "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words) -2007 Mix-" was used in the trailer for the first film Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, as well as contributing the movie's theme song, "Beautiful World".
