The single was a limited edition release, with only 300,000 copies pressed. The release of "appears" coincided with the release of Hamasaki's second studio album, LOVEppears. The cover art is of a "black ayu," intended as a foil to the LOVEppears cover art's "white ayu." The album & single were advertised together in posters & displays often. "appears" reached #2 on the Oricon charts, staying there for a total of three weeks, selling 273,760 copies during it's first week and has since sold a total of 290,550 copies. Track Listing
