The song features a rap by Ayu, something she hadn't done since NOTHING FROM NOTHING was recorded. On the rap section, Ayu says, "Nagao-san's demo tape for this song had a temporary English rap in it and it was really good. So just spontaneously we figured, 'In the place of this English rap, we should put a rap with lyrics written by Ayu.' But every time I thought about writing, I couldn't write... I was worried. Every time I wrote something down, it was different, so it was really difficult... [and] with the sparse knowledge I had, I had to come up with words that rhymed, which I was very bad at. So it has this 'Ayu monologue' feeling to it." The single was a limited edition release, with only 300,000 copies pressed. It was released as part of a de facto series with the kanariya single, and thus shared graphic design concept. Both singles are also promoted in a remix version, and a remix is track one on both releases. Although kanariya was released before Fly high, its stock number is one digit higher. "Fly high" reached #3 on the Oricon charts and stayed on the charts for a total of four weeks. Track Listing
