Hamasaki recorded this song, as well as "For My Dear...," during the recording sessions for the "A Song for XX" album. Comments from Ayu on the lyrics: "'Depend on you' is the first single where I put actual question marks (?) in the lyrics." "If I were to ask 'What is the #1 thing I would change about this year?' it would be getting used to people so I'd be able to trust them. Thinking about it that way, I thought I would be able to eventually trust myself too. Because if you can't trust yourself, you can't ever trust other people, right?" ReissueThe single was reissued as a 5" CD on February 28th, 2001 (as were Ayu's other 3" singles). The tracklist was expanded by the addition of remixes from the ayu-mi-x BOX SET-era analog release. The reissued version reached #27 on Oricon, and stayed on the charts for three weeks. Tracklist
