poker face is Hamasaki Ayumi's debut single. poker face was used as the opening theme song for CDTV during March. On her first day of recording, Hamasaki's grandmother passed away (and is the reason Hamasaki now dislikes the song). After hearing the recording, Hamasaki was displeased with the lyrics and re-wrote them. Her first draft of the song has yet to be released. The single reached #20 on the Oricon charts, charted for six weeks and sold a total of 43,140 copies.
The single was re-released in 2001 on a 12cm format with extra remix songs. This time around the single reached #31 and charted for two weeks.

Music Video
The music video for "poker face" was directed by Takeishi Wataru. The video focuses around Hamasaki standing in front for a large tree filled with television monitors that show her in various locations. It also shows her playing with animals.
