The single was a limited edition release, with only 300,000 copies pressed. It was released as part of a de facto series with the Fly high single, and thus shared graphic design concept. Both singles are also promoted in a remix version, and a remix is track one on both releases. Although kanariya was released before Fly high, its stock number is one digit higher. The single reached #1 on the Oricon charts and stayed on the charts for a total of six weeks. During the first week the single sold 248,070 copies, and in all has sold a total of 289,200 copies. It is the first re-cut single in the history of the Oricon to reach the #1 position. Track Listing

The dark "laboratory" features musical instruments, tv monitors, listening equipment, and a mysterious dark bird. All the subjects are tattooed with dark makeup over one eye and a code number on their hands. Assistant Producer: Kiyoshi Utsumi (prime direction), Yoshiko Ishibashi (Dee DRIVE)
