"60s 70s 80s" is the 32nd single released by Amuro Namie. The single was released in two editions: CD+DVD and CD. The single is a triple A-side, and all of the songs were used for Vidal Sassoon's commercial campaign. Each one the songs represent a certain decade in time and even sample a hit song from that time. "NEW LOOK" represents the 1960's and features a sample from The Supremes' "Baby Love". "ROCK STEADY" represents the 1970's and features a sample from Aretha Franklin's song "Rock Steady". The last song, "WHAT A FEELING" represents the 1980's and features samples from Irene Cara's "What a Feeling", which was the theme for the 1983 film Flashdance.[1]
The single came after the release of Amuro's #1 seventh studio record PLAY. "60s 70s 80s" is the lead-in single to Amuro's third best-of album BEST FICTION. Amuro first performed these songs on January 17th 2008, in front of a selected audience of 150 people. "60s 70s 80s" has been certified platinum for shipments of over 250,000 by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. It also reached #34 on the Global Chart, and #12 on Hong Kong's Japanese Chart. The single also took the #1 spot on the newly instated Billboard Japan.
Oricon Chart Positions
The single peaked at #1 on the daily and weekly Oricon charts, and continued to rank for a total of 21 weeks. It was the #18 best-selling single of 2008.
In the first week "60s 70s 80s" sold 114,719 copies, becoming Amuro's best first-week sales since 2001's "NEVER END". This is Amuro's first #1 single in ten years, with the last being the Komuro Tetsuya produced "I HAVE NEVER SEEN" in 1998. The single reached #2 in its third week, being out sold by 20th Century's "Ore ja Nakya, Kimi ja Nakya" by only 1,686 copies.
