• Originally a 9th generation Kenkyuusei, she was promoted to full member status on December 8, 2010. She was then placed in Team 4 in June 2011. During the AKB48 team shuffle in August 2012, Team 4 was disbanded and she was transferred to Team B.

• Known to be a fan of Watanabe Mayu, whom she views as as a top standard for idols. Yonezawa Rumi, who gave Watanabe the nickname "Mayuyu", thus gave Shimazaki the similar-sounding nickname "Paruru".
• "Ponkotsu", a term that refers to broken machinery or junk in essence, was used to nickname Shimazaki as a reference to her clumsiness. It also referenced her habit of giving comments that made her seem "slow", due also in part to Shimazaki not being very good at speaking or expressing herself.
• Her favourite food is melon pan. In 2010, she and Matsui Rena formed the "Melonpan Alliance" (メロンパン同盟) out of their mutual interest for melon pan, and since then, other members of the alliance have included Ichikawa Miori, Fukumoto Aina, Isohara Kyoka, Matsuoka Natsumi, Miyawaki Sakura, and Murashige Anna.
