Team A (チームA) is one of three teams that form AKB48. Their team color is pink.

Beginning in 2012, selected members would be chosen to serve concurrent (兼任; kennin) or dual positions within AKB48 and one of its sister groups. Although they participate regularly in both groups, these memberships are only temporary, and after a period of time, they will be released from their second post and returned to their original team.

The following members are outside of AKB48 and hold a dual position with Team A.

Information

On June 2005, Akimoto Yasushi had his first audition for his "Akihabara 48 Project", a project for a group that featured 48 girls who performed in their own theater. By October, he had picked 24 girls to be the first group of members for what came to be known as AKB48, and on December 8, 2005, 20 girls debuted in the Akihabara 48 Theater. At the end of Team A's first stage, Usami Yuki graduated to pursue a career in gravure.

On 2007, it was announced that Team A (who had just finished their fourth stage) and Team K (who had just finished their third would be performing together as Himawari-gumi, a team of mixed Team A and K members who performed two stages together. At the time, it was unclear whether they would revert back to their original teams after the run.

On August 2009, it was announced that the teams of AKB48 would be shuffled in October 2009.

On April 2012, founding member Maeda Atsuko announced her graduation from the group, and graduated on August 27, 2012.

On June 2012, Sashihara Rino was transferred to HKT48 following a scandal.

On August 24, 2012, the teams were shuffled as part of the Tokyo Dome Team Shuffle.

The first original team song with this new formation was Kodoku na Hoshizora, which was a coupling song for the single UZA.

On April 28, 2013, Kotani Riho's concurrent position was revoked. Sasaki Yukari was promoted from Kenkyuusei, and Kodama Haruka from HKT48 Team H, Yagura Fuuko from NMB48 Team M, and Suzuki Mariya from SNH48 held concurrent positions. Their first appearance on a Team A song was Kiss Made Countdown, which was a coupling song for the single Heart Ereki.

On June 8, 2013, during the AKB48 5th Annual General Election, founding member Shinoda Mariko announced her graduation from the group, and graduated on July 21, 2013.

On November 10, 2013, during the AKB48 Group Draft Kaigi 2013, Takita Kayoko and Nishiyama Rena were drafted to Team A.

On February 24, 2014, it was announced during the AKB48 Group Daisokaku Matsuri that the teams would be shuffled in April 2014.

The first original team song with this new formation was Kimi wa Kimagure, which was a coupling track for the single Labrador Retriever.

On May 25, 2014, members Iriyama Anna and Kawaei Rina were injured along with a staff member and other fans during a handshake event, in what became known as the Iwate Incident. Both members took a break to recover from their injuries. Kawaei Rina returned to the theater on October 8, 2014, while Iriyama Anna returned on February 13, 2015.

On December 8, 2014, during AKB48's ninth anniversary show, founding member Takahashi Minami announced her graduation from the group, which is set for December 8, 2015, the same day as the group's tenth anniversary.

On March 26, 2015, it was announced during the AKB48 Spring Concert 〜Jikiso Imada Shugyouchu!〜 concert that the teams would be shuffled in August 2015. On the same day, Kawaei Rina announced her graduation from the group, declaring that since she could not participate in handshake events anymore after the Iwate Incident, she now wants to focus on her acting career. She graduated on August 4, 2015.

On May 10, 2015, during the AKB48 Group Draft Kaigi 2013, Hiwatashi Yui was drafted to Team A, but instead of being promoted to the team, she started as a Kenkyuusei.
